James Corsant


            James Corsant, foreman of the Western Michigan Sawmill, located at Woodville, was born in London, Can., June 11, 1838, and is a son of James and Millicent (Farrar) Corsant. He remained under the supervision and instruction of this father until he was 18 years old, at which age he came to Michigan and resided in Hillsdale County a short time. He then went to the city of New York and engaged as a seaman in the coast-sailing service, where he was employed three years. At the end of that time he located in Livingston Co., where he married Miss Martha H., daughter of Elijah and Sarai Bisbee, born in London, Can. He followed farming for two years thereafter, when he turned his attention to lumbering one year, then again purchased a farm; but, not finding agriculture a congenial pursuit, he embarked in his present business, taking charge of the mill Jan 8, 1879, since which time he has been actively engaged in furthering the interests of the proprietors. The family circle includes the following children: Florence A., Charles D., William D., Mabel W. amd Rubie M.
