John Welsh bought the farm October 13, 1886 for $900.00 from Abraham and Alice Peck. When John died April 9, 1891, he left a widow; Margarite, Three sons; Patrick, Martin and John Jr. and a daughter Mary. In the 1900 Newaygo County Atlas it show that the farm belong to Maggie (Margarite) Welsh. John Welsh Jr. And wife Kate "Currens" Welsh became owners May 5, 1906. Some years the new barn was built. They had three children, a daughter, Pauline and sons, John and Gerald. Kate Welsh died in 1942 and her husband John died in 1943. Their sons John and Gerald were owners soon after. John never married and lived there until his death. John had willed his share of the farm to his brother Gerald and his wife Emily, upon his death, they became the sole owners. Gerald and Emily Welsh had three sons; Thomas, Timothy and James. Gerald Neil Welsh died May 26, 1993 and his wife Emily Welsh became the owner. On December 20, 1996, Gerald and Emily Welsh’s son James and his wife Leslie, purchased the farm. Their son Austin James Welsh became the 5th. generation to live on the farm. |
