Jewell Post Office, was located in Lilley Township just south of the Lake County and Newaygo County line. The office was established on June 8th., 1901. Oscar L. Heath was the first Postmaster and Claude S. Wallace was the Postmaster when the office closed on Aug. 14th., 1906. The mail then went to the Lilley Post Office.

One of the last Post Office to be established in this decade was Alderson. This office was located just south of the Lake County line in Lilley Township, at about the same location as the Jewell Post Office. The Jewell office closed in 1906 and Alderson was established on May 6th, 1907. William L Walters was the first Postmaster. Claude S. Wallace became Postmaster on Dec. 14, 1907. He had also been the last Postmaster of the Jewell Post Office. Elizabeth J. Alderson was the Postmaster when the Alderson office closed on Dec. 24th, 1908. The mail then went to Biteley. The hamlet and the Post Office was named after J. J. Alderson who owned the first general store at this location.
