Margaret Barnhard, daughter of Simon and Sarah Barnhard, married a widower, William Preston, on October 29, 1835 in Sandusky County, Ohio. They had 8 children and remained in Ohio. William died on October 6, 1850 and a child named, Havens, died on November 10, 1850. Since five of Margaret's brothers and sisters had moved to the Croton area with their families in 1849, Margaret moved her family to Brooks Township, Newaygo County in 1851. In 1855 they moved to Dayton Township and lived west of the Walker School. William and Margaret had eight children all born in Ohio. Margaret, later moved to Kent County, MI and lived with one of her children.
1. Martha born Jan.16, 1837 and died Feb.12, 1854 in Michigan.
2. Jonah born Feb.26, 1838 and died August 26, 1838 in Ohio.
3. Shinar born Aug.15 1839 and died Nov.14, 1932 in Fremont, Michigan. Shinar married 1. Eugenia Dickison and 2. Hannah Dickison Brooks. Shinar fought in the Civil War. Served from March 1862 to March 1865.
4. John born Mar.14, 1841 and died July 19, 1836. He married Cleome Greenley.
5. Sarah born Oct.20, 1842 and died Nov. 3, 1925. She married Alexander Walker.
6. Perry born Oct.30, 1844 and died Dec.20, 1863 in the Civil War.
7. Havens born Jan. 2, 1846 and died Nov.10, 1850 in Ohio.
8. Levi born Dec.24, 1849. Levi married Lucinda O'Brien.
