John C. Miller, farmer section 21, Sheridan Township, was a son of Peter Miller, a native of Sweden, and was born in that country in June, 1837. He came to America in 1864 and went directly to Illinois, where he lived two and a half years engaged in farming, then came to Muskegon, Michigan and worked in mills and on the railroad until the fall of 1876. He then came to Newaygo County and purchased 120 acres of land, to which he added 40 more, and had about 50 acres under tillage.
He was married in Sweden, Dec. 31, 1859, to Ida Peterson, a native of that country. They had nine children: Peter M., Charles J., Otto A., Ida D., Jennie O., Hilma M. and Emily E. In politics he was a Republican.
